Mixed conditionals connect a past action to a present result, or a general trait to a past event.
- Past cause, present effect: Use '-saydı' + '-ardı'. Öyrənsəydim, indi bilərdim.
- General trait, past effect: Use '-saydı' + '-mış olardı'. Cəsur olsaydım, o vaxt deyərdim.
- Always use the 'idi' particle (contracted as -yd-) to show it's hypothetical.
Meanings
Mixed conditionals are used to express hypothetical situations where the time in the 'if-clause' is different from the time in the 'result-clause'. They describe how the past affects the present or how a permanent state affected a past event.
Past Condition -> Present Result
A hypothetical past action that would have changed the current situation.
“Dünən bileti alsaydım, indi təyyarədə olardım.”
“Məktəbi bitirsəydin, indi işin olardı.”
General State -> Past Result
A permanent quality or general truth that would have changed a specific past event.
“Fransızca bilsəydim, keçən il Parisə gedərdim.”
“Tənbəl olmasaydım, imtahandan kəsilməzdim.”
Past Action -> Future Result
A past event that changes a planned or likely future event.
“Pulu itirməsəydim, sabah yeni maşın alardım.”
“Dəvətnaməni göndərsəydin, sabah hamı gələrdi.”

FAQ (8)
Yes, you can, but it's optional. The suffix `-sa/-sə` already carries the meaning of 'if'. In casual speech, 'əgər' is often dropped.
Adding 'ki' makes it more emphatic and is often used in wishes (e.g., 'Kaş ki...'). In mixed conditionals, plain '-saydı' is more common.
Yes, if a past action affects a future plan. 'Dünən bileti alsaydım, sabah gedərdim.'
Azerbaijani is pro-drop, so you don't need 'mən' unless you want to emphasize who you are talking about.
'Olsaydı' is the contracted, more natural form. 'Olsa idi' is very formal or old-fashioned.
Use the suffix `-maz` or `-məz`. For example: 'olmazdı' (wouldn't be).
Technically no, because Type 1 is for real possibilities and Type 2 is for unreal ones. Mixed conditionals are almost always unreal (hypothetical).
Absolutely. It's used to analyze risks and past performance. 'İnvestisiya etsəydik, indi qazancımız çox olardı.'
