Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
Implied conditionals drop the 'if' (ако) and use prepositions or context to express a hypothetical situation.
- Use 'без' (without) to imply a negative condition: 'Без теб нямаше да успея.'
- Use 'при' (under/with) for positive conditions: 'При повече късмет щяхме да спечелим.'
- Use imperatives to set conditions: 'Кажи му истината и ще съжаляваш.'
Meanings
A construction where the condition (protasis) is not a full clause starting with 'ако', but is instead implied by a phrase or the surrounding context.
Prepositional Implication
Using 'без', 'при', or 'в случай на' to replace an entire 'if' clause.
“Без твоето съдействие проектът щеше да се провали.”

Imperative Conditionals
Using an imperative verb to act as the condition for a following result.
“Направи още една крачка и ще паднеш.”

FAQ (6)
Not always. You can only do it when the condition can be summarized by a noun. If the condition is a complex action (e.g., 'If he decides to go to the store'), you usually need `ако`.
Mostly, yes. It implies 'under the condition of' or 'with'. For negative conditions, `без` is the standard choice.
`Бих` is for present/future hypotheses ('I would do it now'). `Щях да` is for past hypotheses ('I would have done it then').
It is neutral to formal. In very informal speech, people might just say `иначе` (otherwise).
No, `без` must be followed by a noun or pronoun. If you want to use a verb, you must use `без да` + verb, but that usually means 'without doing' rather than 'if not'.
It's a way to add drama or urgency. 'Do it and you'll see' is much more powerful than 'If you do it, you will see'.
