Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

Use the optative suffix '-ayım/-əyim' followed by the question particle '-mı/-mi' to propose an action or ask for permission.

  • Add -ayım/-əyim to the verb stem based on vowel harmony: 'Gəl' + 'im' + 'mi' = 'Gəlimmi?' (Shall I come?)
  • For plural suggestions, use -aq/-ək: 'Gedək' + 'mi' = 'Gedəkmi?' (Shall we go?)
  • The question particle 'mı/mi/mu/mü' is always written separately or attached depending on style, but usually attached in modern orthography.
