Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

Most Bulgarian nouns end in -и or -е, but some common words use -а or -я; watch for these exceptions!

  • Masculine nouns ending in a consonant often take -и, but some take -а (e.g., крак -> крака).
  • Short masculine nouns often double their length with -ове (e.g., син -> синове).
  • Some neuter nouns change their ending to -а (e.g., око -> очи).
