أي وقت يناسبك

Using this phrase is like adding a 'politeness filter' to your sentences. You usually place it at the end of a proposal. For example, if you want to suggest a phone call, you’d say: 'Let’s talk, أي وقت يناسبك.' It functions as a modular piece of a sentence. You don't need complex grammar to make it work. Just state what you want to do, then drop this phrase to show you're flexible. Remember to change the ending for the person you're talking to: -ak for a man, -ik for a woman, and -akum for a group.

This is a Swiss Army knife of phrases. Use it in a business email to show you're a team player. Use it when texting a friend to grab coffee so you don't seem too pushy. It’s perfect for those 'let's catch up' moments where neither person wants to be the one to dictate the plan. If you're a guest and your host asks when you'd like to eat, saying this shows great manners. It’s the 'no-stress' way to make plans.

Don't use this if you actually have a very tight schedule. If you are only free at 2 PM, saying أي وقت يناسبك will lead to a very awkward conversation when they suggest 4 PM! Also, avoid using it with someone who is notoriously indecisive. Some people need you to take the lead. If you give them 'any time,' you might spend three hours just trying to pick a time. In those cases, suggest a specific time first.

In Arabic-speaking cultures, hospitality (Karam) and flexibility are huge values. Being too rigid with time can sometimes come across as cold or overly transactional. By offering 'any time,' you are practicing a form of social generosity. It’s a way of saying, 'Our relationship is more important than my calendar.' Historically, social life in the Middle East has been more fluid than in the West, and this phrase reflects that relaxed, welcoming approach to time management.

You will often hear في أي وقت which just means 'at any time.' In more casual Egyptian or Levantine dialects, people might say الوقت اللي يريحك (the time that relaxes/suits you). If you want to be extra formal, you could say في الوقت الذي تراه مناسباً (at the time you see as appropriate). But for 90% of your daily interactions, أي وقت يناسبك is the 'Goldilocks' choice—not too formal, not too casual, just right.
