Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
Khmer does not use spaces between words; spaces are only used to separate clauses or complete phrases.
- No spaces between words: 'ខ្ញុំញ៉ាំបាយ' (I eat rice) is one block.
- Use spaces for clarity: Add a space only at the end of a logical phrase or clause.
- Punctuation replaces spaces: Use commas or periods to separate long thoughts instead of spaces.
Meanings
Khmer is an 'scriptio continua' language, meaning it lacks word-level spacing. Spaces function as punctuation to mark the end of phrases.
