Front vs Back Vowels
Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
Uzbek suffixes change their vowels to match the last vowel of the word they attach to.
- If the last vowel is back (a, o, u, o'), the suffix uses back vowels. (e.g., kitob-lar)
- If the last vowel is front (e, i, o, u), the suffix uses front vowels. (e.g., uy-lar)
- Exceptions exist for loanwords, but follow the sound of the final syllable.
Meanings
