This rule governs how Bulgarian speakers choose between perfective and imperfective verb aspects in clauses that explain the reason or cause for an action described in the main clause.

If you can add 'and that's why' after the cause, use Perfective. If you can add 'while I was...', use Imperfective.

'Защото' introduces new information. 'Понеже' is used when the reason is already somewhat known or obvious.
