The structure is super simple: Subject + 喜欢 + Object. You can say 我喜欢咖啡 (I like coffee). If you want to say you like doing something, just add a verb. 我喜欢旅行 (I like traveling). To make it stronger, add 很 (hěn) in front to say 很喜欢. It is like adding a sprinkle of extra sugar to your sentence.

Use it every single day. Use it when you are ordering food and want to tell the waiter you like spicy stuff. Use it when you are meeting new friends and talking about hobbies. It is perfect for texting someone you have a crush on. It is safe, friendly, and never sounds out of place in a casual conversation.

Don't use it if you are trying to sound deeply, soul-crushingly in love. For that, you need 爱 (ài). Also, avoid using it in extremely stiff, legal, or high-level government documents. In those cases, people use more formal vocabulary. If you are just 'okay' with something, 喜欢 might be too strong. Use 还可以 instead.

In Chinese culture, people used to be quite reserved about feelings. 喜欢 was a safe middle ground. It allowed people to express affection without the heavy weight of the word 'love.'
