Basic Social Questions (Questions)

Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

Turn any statement into a yes/no question by adding 'mi', 'mı', 'mu', or 'mü' at the end.

  • Use 'mi' after words with front vowels (e, i). Example: 'Bu kedi mi?'
  • Use 'mı' after words with back vowels (a, ı). Example: 'Bu masa mı?'
  • Use 'mu' or 'mü' based on rounded vowels (o, u or ö, ü). Example: 'Bu okul mu?'
Word + (mı/mi/mu/mü) = Question?

Meanings

The question particle is used to turn a declarative sentence into a yes/no question. It functions similarly to 'do/does' or 'is/are' at the start of English questions.

2

3

Polite Inquiry

Softening a request or question.
