Unidirectional Motion (Idty)
Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
Use unidirectional verbs when your movement has a specific, single direction or goal in mind.
- Use for a single, non-repeated trip: 'Я йду в магазин' (I am walking to the store).
- Use for movement happening right now: 'Він біжить додому' (He is running home).
- Use when the destination is the focus: 'Ми їдемо в Київ' (We are driving to Kyiv).
Meanings
Unidirectional verbs describe motion in one specific direction at a specific time, usually toward a destination.
Current Motion
Action happening at the moment of speech.
“Я йду додому.”
“Він біжить на автобус.”
Planned Future
Motion intended for a specific near future.
“Завтра я їду до Львова.”
“Ми йдемо в кіно ввечері.”
Single Trip
A one-time movement from one point to another.
“Він поїхав у відрядження.”
“Я йшов через парк.”
