चीजों की तुलना करना (बड़ा, अधिक महंगा)
-er more compare
Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
Use comparatives to describe the difference between two people, places, or things using '-er' or 'more'.
- Add '-er' to short words (1 syllable), like 'fast' to 'faster'.
- Use 'more' before long words (2+ syllables), like 'more beautiful'.
- Always use 'than' to connect the two things you are comparing.
Overview
My house is bigger than yours.(मेरा घर तुम्हारे घर से बड़ा है।)
Subject 1 + verb + comparative adjective + than + Subject 2Tea is hotter than water. (चाय पानी से ज़्यादा गर्म है।)-er जोड़ते हैं।tall→taller(लंबा → और लंबा)fast→faster(तेज़ → और तेज़)old→older(पुराना → और पुराना)
- यदि शब्द
-eपर खत्म हो: तो सिर्फ-rजोड़ें। large→largernice→nicer- CVC नियम (Consonant-Vowel-Consonant): यदि शब्द के अंत में एक व्यंजन (consonant), उससे पहले एक स्वर (vowel) और फिर एक व्यंजन हो, तो आखिरी अक्षर को डबल कर दें।
big→bigger(यहाँgको डबल किया गया है)hot→hotter(यहाँtको डबल किया गया है)thin→thinner(यहाँnको डबल किया गया है)
-y पर खत्म होते हैं-y है, तो -y को हटाकर -ier लगा दें।happy→happier(खुश → और खुश)easy→easier(आसान → और आसान)heavy→heavier(भारी → और भारी)
-er नहीं जोड़ते, बल्कि उनसे पहले more लगाते हैं।expensive→more expensive(महंगा → और महंगा)beautiful→more beautiful(सुंदर → और सुंदर)difficult→more difficult(कठिन → और कठिन)
good | better | अच्छा → बेहतर |bad | worse | बुरा → और बुरा |far | farther / further | दूर → और दूर |little | less | थोड़ा → और कम |much / many | more | ज़्यादा → और ज़्यादा |This auto is faster than that rickshaw.(यह ऑटो उस रिक्शा से तेज़ है।)My brother is shorter than me.(मेरा भाई मुझसे छोटा है।)
The market is more crowded than last year.(बाज़ार पिछले साल की तुलना में अधिक भीड़भाड़ वाला है।)Phones are becoming smaller and smarter.(फोन छोटे और स्मार्ट होते जा रहे हैं।)
I think Virat Kohli is a better player than anyone else.(मुझे लगता है कि विराट कोहली किसी भी अन्य खिलाड़ी से बेहतर खिलाड़ी हैं।)Home-made food is healthier than street food.(घर का बना खाना स्ट्रीट फूड से ज़्यादा स्वास्थ्यवर्धक होता है।)
She speaks English more fluently than her friend.(वह अपनी सहेली की तुलना में अधिक धाराप्रवाह इंग्लिश बोलती है।)You need to drive more carefully in the rain.(आपको बारिश में अधिक सावधानी से गाड़ी चलाने की ज़रूरत है।)
more better कह देते हैं। यह गलत है। better अपने आप में ही तुलनात्मक है, इसलिए more की ज़रूरत नहीं है।- गलत:
This pen is more better. - सही:
This pen is better. - याद रखें: या तो
-erलगाएँ याmore, दोनों एक साथ कभी नहीं।
Than तुलना के लिए उपयोग होता है, जबकि Then समय (तब/फिर) के लिए।- गलत:
He is taller then me. - सही:
He is taller than me.
than me (informal) और than I am (formal) दोनों चलते हैं, लेकिन छात्र अक्सर उलझ जाते हैं।- बोलचाल में:
He is older than me.(स्वीकार्य है) - औपचारिक:
He is older than I.(अधिक व्याकरणिक रूप से सही माना जाता है)
more लगा देते हैं क्योंकि यह आसान लगता है।- गलत:
This is more cheap. - सही:
This is cheaper.
as...as संरचना भी तुलना के लिए उपयोग होती है। आइए इनका अंतर देखें:-er / more) | सिर्फ दो के बीच तुलना के लिए। | Mumbai is bigger than Delhi. |-est / most) | दो से अधिक या समूह में सबसे श्रेष्ठ के लिए। | Mumbai is the biggest city in India. |as...as) | जब दो चीज़ें बराबर हों। | Ram is as tall as Shyam. (राम उतना ही लंबा है जितना श्याम।) |Lessका उपयोग उन चीज़ों के लिए करें जिन्हें गिना नहीं जा सकता (Uncountable), जैसेwater,time,money।Fewerका उपयोग उन चीज़ों के लिए करें जिन्हें गिना जा सकता है (Countable), जैसेbooks,people,cars।- उदाहरण:
I have less money than you.लेकिनI have fewer books than you.
more fast कह सकता हूँ?fast एक शब्द-खंड (one syllable) वाला शब्द है, इसलिए इसका सही रूप faster होगा। More fast व्याकरणिक रूप से गलत है।Farther और Further में क्या अंतर है?farther का उपयोग करें (जैसे: The station is farther than the park)। किसी अमूर्त विचार या 'अतिरिक्त' (additional) के अर्थ में further का उपयोग करें (जैसे: I need further information)। हालांकि, आधुनिक इंग्लिश में लोग अक्सर दोनों को एक-दूसरे की जगह इस्तेमाल करते हैं।than के बाद दूसरी चीज़ का नाम न लूँ, तो क्या वाक्य सही होगा?than before (पहले से) छिपा हुआ है। यह पूरी तरह सही है।cleverer और more clever दोनों सही हैं?cleverer और more clever दोनों सही हैं, लेकिन आधुनिक इंग्लिश में more clever अधिक प्रचलित होता जा रहा है। इसी तरह quieter और more quiet भी दोनों सही हैं।Comparative Formation Rules

Smart Tips
Always change the 'y' to 'i' before adding '-er'. It works for happy, busy, easy, and crazy!
Use 'much' or 'a bit' to show the size of the difference.
In casual English, we use 'than me' or 'than him'. In very formal English, we use 'than I am' or 'than he is'.
Use 'the [comparative] one' to choose between two items without repeating the noun.
उच्चारण
The Schwa sound in '-er'
The '-er' ending is almost always pronounced as a weak schwa /ə/. Do not stress it.

Stress the comparative adjective to emphasize the difference.

Look around your room. Find two objects and say three sentences comparing them out loud (e.g., 'The lamp is taller than the book').
सांस्कृतिक नोट्स
Americans often use 'farther' for physical distance and 'further' for metaphorical distance. British speakers often use 'further' for both.
In Japanese culture, direct comparisons can sometimes be seen as too blunt. In English, however, they are expected and necessary for clarity.
German speakers may find the English use of 'more' for long adjectives similar to their own 'mehr', but must remember that German also uses suffixes for almost all adjectives.
The '-er' suffix comes from the Old English '-ra', which was used to form comparatives in Germanic languages.

अक्सर पूछे जाने वाले सवाल (8)
Double the last letter for one-syllable words that end in a single vowel + single consonant (like `big` -> `bigger`, `hot` -> `hotter`). Do not double it if there are two vowels (like `cheap` -> `cheaper`).
Both are correct! In American English, `farther` is usually for physical distance and `further` is for metaphorical distance (like 'further information'). In British English, `further` is common for both.
Both are actually correct! Some two-syllable words like `clever`, `simple`, and `narrow` can take either form, though `-er` is more traditional.
Because `better` already means 'more good'. Saying `more better` is like saying 'more more good', which is redundant and incorrect in standard English.
`Than` is for comparing things (He is taller `than` me). `Then` is for time or sequences (I went home, `then` I ate dinner).
Use the structure `as + adjective + as`. For example, 'I am `as tall as` my brother.'
Yes! For example, 'He runs `faster` than me' or 'She speaks `more clearly` than her friend.' The rules for syllables are the same.
You can use `less + adjective + than`. For example, 'This phone is `less expensive` than that one.'
