Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

Lao transport verbs use simple structures: Subject + Verb + Destination to describe how you travel.

  • Use 'pai' (to go) for movement away from the speaker: 'Khoy pai talat' (I go to the market).
  • Use 'ma' (to come) for movement toward the speaker: 'Lao ma ha khoy' (He comes to find me).
  • Add the vehicle name after the verb to specify transport: 'Pai rot-me' (Go by bus).
