Deshpande often used the concept of 'mothi chuk' to highlight the absurdities of middle-class life and the small errors that lead to big comedic disasters. In Pune's IT hubs, 'Mothi chuk' is often used in 'Retrospectives' to discuss bugs or deployment failures, though 'Critical Issue' is the English term used, the Marathi discussion often revolves around the 'chuk'. In Marathi movies, a 'mothi chuk' is often a plot pivot, where a character's single wrong decision leads to a dramatic shift in the story.
