Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

Bulgarian verbs come in pairs: Imperfective for ongoing actions and Perfective for completed results.

  • Use Imperfective for habits or ongoing processes: 'Чета книга' (I am reading a book).
  • Use Perfective for one-time completed actions: 'Прочетох книгата' (I finished reading the book).
  • Most verbs have a pair: 'пиша' (imperfective) vs 'напиша' (perfective).

Meanings

Verbal aspect defines whether an action is viewed as an ongoing process or a completed event.
