Instrumental-Ablative Case: Combined Usage
Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
The Instrumental case shows 'how' or 'with what' you do something, while the Ablative shows 'from where' something originates.
- Instrumental (-ով): Use for tools or means (e.g., գրչով - with a pen).
- Ablative (-ից): Use for origin or source (e.g., տնից - from home).
- Combined: You can use both in one sentence to describe movement from a source using a tool.

Meanings
The Instrumental case indicates the instrument or means of an action, while the Ablative case indicates the point of origin or separation.
Instrumental (Means)
Used to denote the tool, vehicle, or method used to perform an action.
“Ես գրում եմ գրչով։”

Ablative (Origin)
Used to denote the starting point of motion or the source of something.
