Confusing 'A' and 'Ä' can completely change the word. 'Saari' is island, while 'sää' is weather. Always check the dots!

Wrong: Minä olen saa. (I am a island.)
Richtig: Minä olen sää. (I am weather - contextually: Minä olen täällä.)

English speakers often shorten long vowels. In Finnish, 'u' and 'uu' are two different sounds.

Wrong: Tuli (fire) pronounced as Tuuli (wind).
Richtig: Tuuli (wind).

Putting the stress on the second syllable (like in English 'to-MA-to') makes the word hard for Finns to recognize. Always hit the first syllable.
