Croatian prepositions act like magnets, pulling the following noun into a specific grammatical case.

  • 1. 'U' (in) takes the Accusative case for movement: 'Idem u školu' (I go to school).
  • 2. 'Na' (on/at) takes the Accusative for destination: 'Idem na kavu' (I go for coffee).
  • 3. 'S/Sa' (with) requires the Instrumental case: 'S prijateljem' (With a friend).
