Introducing the Pluperfect Tense: I Had Done
Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
The Pluperfect describes an action that was completed before another action in the past.
- Use the -ել or -ացել participle of the main verb.
- Add the past tense of the auxiliary verb 'to be' (էի, էիր, էր...).
- In negative sentences, the 'չ' goes on the auxiliary verb: չէի կերել.

Meanings
Expresses an action that took place and was completed prior to a specific point or another action in the past.

You can, but it sounds less precise. Simple Past just lists events. Pluperfect shows how they relate to each other.
Only for -ել verbs. For -ալ verbs, you must use the -ացել ending.
