Separable and Inseparable Prefixes
Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
Inseparable prefixes stay attached to the verb, while separable particles allow the auxiliary verb to jump in between them during conjugation.
- Inseparable prefixes like 'վեր-' (re-) never leave the verb stem: 'վերադառնում եմ' (I return).
- Separable particles like 'դուրս' (out) split from the verb: 'դուրս եմ գալիս' (I am going out).

This rule governs how Armenian verbs change meaning through prefixes and how compound verbs (particle + verb) interact with auxiliary verbs like 'to be' (եմ, ես, է).
Inseparable Prefixes
Morphological prefixes that modify the core meaning of a verb and remain attached in all tenses.

Separable Compound Verbs
Verbs consisting of a spatial particle and a base verb where the auxiliary verb must be placed between them in the indicative present/imperfect.

Negative Separation
When a verb is negated, the negative auxiliary (չեմ, չես...) moves to the 'power position' before the verb or between the compound parts.
