Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
Use 'ເປັນເວລາ' (pen wela) or 'ໄດ້' (dai) to express how long an action lasts in Lao.
- Use 'ເປັນເວລາ' + [time] for duration: 'ຂ້ອຍຢູ່ລາວເປັນເວລາສາມປີ' (I stayed in Laos for three years).
- Use 'ໄດ້' + [time] before the verb for elapsed time: 'ຂ້ອຍໄດ້ຮຽນພາສາລາວສອງເດືອນ' (I have studied Lao for two months).
- Use 'ຕັ້ງແຕ່' for starting points: 'ຂ້ອຍຢູ່ທີ່ນີ້ຕັ້ງແຕ່ປີ 2020' (I have been here since 2020).
