How This Grammar Works

Common Mistakes

The biggest mistake is forgetting the word fi. Many learners say dacă aș știut. This is wrong and sounds very chopped. You must include fi every single time. It is the heart of the structure. Another mistake is using the wrong auxiliary. Some people use the future auxiliary by mistake. Remember, it is aș, not voi. Don't mix up am (we) and au (they). Actually, for they, the auxiliary is ar. This is a common trap for Spanish or Italian speakers. Another mistake is the double if logic. In English, we don't say
If I would have known.
