The partitive case is used for indefinite quantities, negative objects, and ongoing actions.

  • Use it for 'some' or an unknown amount: 'Juon vettä' (I drink some water).
  • Use it with negative verbs: 'En juo vettä' (I don't drink water).
  • Use it with numbers greater than one: 'Kaksi omenaa' (Two apples).
