डबल रूम

Use it just like you would in English. You can pair it with verbs like चाहिए (want) or मिलेगा (will get). For example, मुझे एक डबल रूम चाहिए means 'I want a double room.' You don't need to translate 'double' or 'room' into pure Hindi. Most locals don't use the pure Hindi words for these anymore. It sounds natural and modern.

Use this when booking accommodation over the phone. Use it at the reception desk when you arrive. It is perfect for travel websites or apps. You can also use it when discussing travel plans with friends. If you are sharing a space with a buddy, this is your go-to phrase. It works in every city from Delhi to Mumbai.

Don't use this if you are looking for a single bed. If you want a suite, specify सुइट (suite) instead. Avoid using it if you are talking about a bedroom in a house. For houses, people usually say कमरा (room) or बेडरूम (bedroom). Using डबल रूम for a private home sounds a bit like you're running a hotel! Also, don't confuse it with 'Double occupancy' which is a different pricing term.

India has a long history with the English language. This led to many English words becoming 'Hindi' words. डबल रूम is more common than the Hindi दो बिस्तरों वाला कमरा. In Indian culture, traveling with family is huge. You might find a डबल रूम that magically fits a third person with an 'extra mattress'. This is a very common Indian 'adjustment' or जुगाड़ (jugaad).
