Long vs. Short Form Adjectives (Definite/Indefinite)
Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
Croatian adjectives change endings based on whether you are talking about a specific item or just any item.
- Short form (indefinite) is used for general statements: 'On je dobar čovjek' (He is a good man).
- Long form (definite) is used for specific items: 'Taj čovjek je dobri' (That man is the good one).
- Most adjectives in dictionaries are in the short form; add -i, -a, -o to make them long.
