Omission of the Definite Article
Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
In Armenian, omit the definite article (-ը/-ն) when referring to a non-specific, generic, or indefinite noun.
- Use no article for generic concepts: 'Գիրք կարդալը օգտակար է' (Reading books is useful).
- Omit when the noun is modified by an indefinite pronoun: 'Որևէ գիրք' (Any book).
- Omit in negative existential statements: 'Տանը շուն չկա' (There is no dog in the house).

Meanings
The omission of the definite article indicates that a noun is indefinite, generic, or represents a category rather than a specific instance.
Generic/Indefinite
Referring to any member of a class or an unspecified item.
“Նա ուսանող է։”

Negative Existential
Absence of a specific item.
“Այստեղ աթոռ չկա։”
