At a traditional feast, the Tamada will use 'Gilotsavt' to toast to the host, the guests, or a specific event. It is polite to stand up or raise your glass when this word is directed at you. On major Orthodox holidays like Easter (Aghdgoma) or Christmas (Shoba), 'Gilotsav' is the standard greeting even for strangers on the street. Georgians are very active on social media. If you see a photo of a newborn or a wedding, commenting 'Gilotsavt!' with many heart emojis is the expected social behavior. In Georgia, people celebrate their 'Name Day' (the day of the saint they are named after). If it's St. George's Day, every 'Giorgi' you know should receive a 'Gilotsav' message.
