Identifying Indirect Objects
Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
To identify an indirect object in Bengali, add the suffix '-কে' (ke) to the person receiving the action.
- Use '-কে' for people: 'আমি রহিমকে বই দিলাম' (I gave Rahim the book).
- Use '-কে' for pets/animals: 'আমি কুকুরটিকে খাবার দিলাম' (I gave the dog food).
- Do not use '-কে' for inanimate objects: 'আমি টেবিলে বই রাখলাম' (I put the book on the table).
Meanings
The indirect object marker '-কে' identifies the recipient of an action, typically a person or sentient being.
Recipient
The person receiving something.
“আমি ভাইকে টাকা দিলাম”

When a person is the direct target of an action.

Easily Confused
Learners mix up location and recipient.
