Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
The '-ine' suffix connects two actions where one happens immediately before the other, like 'having done X, I did Y'.
- Remove the verb ending and add '-ine' (ઈને). Example: 'Kha' (eat) becomes 'Khaine' (having eaten).
- The subject of both verbs must be the same. Example: 'He ate and left' (Te khaine gayo).
- It expresses sequence, not just 'and'. Example: 'Wash and dry' (Dhoine sukvo).
Meanings
The '-ine' suffix is used to link two sequential actions performed by the same subject, indicating that the first action is completed before the second begins.
Sequential Action
Action A happens, then Action B happens.
“તેણે નાહીને જમ્યું. (He bathed and then ate.)”
“મેં કામ પતાવીને ફોન કર્યો. (I finished work and then called.)”
Manner/Instrument
Doing something by means of another action.
“તેણે મહેનત કરીને સફળતા મેળવી. (He achieved success by working hard.)”
“મેં વિચારીને જવાબ આપ્યો. (I answered after thinking.)”
