Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

To say you won't do something, add the negative suffix -ma/-me/-pa/-pe to the verb root before the future tense ending.

  • If the verb ends in a consonant, add -ma/-me (e.g., bar- + ma = barma-).
  • If the verb ends in a vowel, add -pa/-pe (e.g., oqi- + pa = oqipa-).
  • Follow the suffix with the future tense marker -y/-i or -ar/-er depending on the verb type.
Verb Root + (ma/me/pa/pe) + Future Suffix + Personal Ending
