The Bli-Passive Construction

Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

Use 'bli' + past participle to focus on the action rather than the person doing it.

  • Use 'bli' + past participle for dynamic passive actions: 'Huset blir malt' (The house is being painted).
  • The agent (who does it) is introduced with 'av': 'Huset blir malt av meg' (The house is painted by me).
  • Only transitive verbs (verbs that take an object) can be used in the bli-passive.
Subject + blir + Past Participle (+ av + Agent)
