Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

Kazakh turns statements into questions by adding a particle suffix based on vowel harmony.

  • Use -ma/-me after consonants or vowels if the word ends in a nasal/voiced sound.
  • Use -pa/-pe after voiceless consonants (k, q, p, s, t, sh).

Meanings

These particles are attached to the end of a word to transform a declarative sentence into a yes/no question.

Used to seek confirmation or information.
