♪ This is Safiya's new intro song ♪
- Hello, friends, and welcome to another video.
This week, I'm gonna be buying some unrealistic
dream gowns from Pinterest and seeing what we get.
We're really putting that Fiverr intro from 2017
to good use, aren't we?
Thanks to Shopify for sponsoring a portion of this video.
Now I feel like I can confidently say
that I am an OG Pinterest user.
I started pinning back in 2011,
and I have some extremely cringey Millennial pins
to prove it.
Some that I can stand by,
infinity scarves and fit-and-flare dresses
need to be trend cycled back in,
and some pins that I really can't explain.
I just don't know.
And I loved using Pinterest to curate images
and aesthetics with seemingly no real goal in mind,
just for vibes,
as aspirational vision boards for my dream wardrobe,
or to prepare myself for imaginary,
hypothetical red carpet events.
And one of the great dreams back in the day
was to be able to buy the things in your most coveted pins.
But, oftentimes, it was very unclear where things came from
or they were wildly expensive designer items,
so pins were mostly unattainable.
And though I still use Pinterest every now and again
for specific projects,
I don't just scroll and pin the same way I used to.
So imagine my surprise when I started seeing other friends
and YouTubers, like HopeScope and Mia Maples,
making videos and buying stuff from Pinterest.
What? How are they even doing that?
You can't buy stuff on Pinterest.
They must be witches.
But it turns out, when I went to investigate,
that Pinterest is different now,
and you can just buy most of the stuff
you see right there on the site,
which seemed like a dream come true.
Except, based on Hope and Mia's videos,
it seems like it might be a little less
of a shoppable online catalog
and a little more of an every-man-for-himself
mass catfishing operation.
But I figured, to honor 2011 Safiya,
we had to try it out for ourselves.
And to complete the fantasy, I thought we should try
and buy four full-on gowns,
the ultimate Pinterest dream item.
And since we're gonna be following my Pinterest homepage,
we're gonna be going for dark,
witchy, celestial fantasy gowns.
Not full-on goth necessarily,
but goth adjacent at least.
So I guess we shall see if any of these dresses are legit,
or will my dreams be crushed?
Let me fail so you don't have to.
All right, let's go to Pinterest.
It's time. It's time.
Boom! Ooh, okay.
Right off the bat, things are looking witchy.
Now when I sat down to start buying stuff from Pinterest,
we hadn't totally honed in on the just dream gowns idea.
In fact, originally, I wanted to just scroll,
see what we could get.
Oh, I do love that.
And potentially buy an entire dream goth-adjacent wardrobe.
I like this. I like this.
This is kind of cool, kind of vintagey.
Ooh, this is kind of interesting.
But we quickly realized that was way too big of a frame
for a single video.
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
I'm not allowed to scroll down?
Oh, oh, oh!
- [Tyler] See if you do this,
we're just gonna be here all day.
- Woo!
As my homepage served up a ton of cool stuff right away
from TV pants, to whimsigoth overalls, to batty tunics.
There's a celestial cardigan,
to spidery blazers.
"Madame Web," but good, just kidding. (laughs)
I didn't see it, I just know that Dakota Johnson hates it.
To mysterious hands, what is this?
Is it a necklace?
Is it a bra?
Is it a bra top?
All the way to "Black Swan" epaulets.
I don't think I would wear it like the model is wearing it,
or the mannequin rather.
They're going tits out.
Fully tits out.
There was also notably a ton of really cool fantasy tiaras.
Ooh, what about this crazy "Pan's Labyrinth" crown?
Look at that! That's crazy!
I have a friend on TikTok, Queen Astraea,
who has a whole series where she just buys crowns.
Look at this one, look at this one.
Look at this one, look at this one.
And you know what? I get it.
Would it be weird to buy a crown for life?
No. Right?
Now for content, content.
Maybe if you guys like this,
we can make an unrealistic Pinterest accessories video,
which is definitely gonna have to feature
this $1,000 shrimp headband.
But after narrowly avoiding impulse buying
an Adonis body chain and penis cover.
Oh!
(Tyler laughs) Oh.
- [Tyler] Dude, how did they get that photo of me?
(Safiya and Tyler laughing)
- We decided we needed to focus
and got to taking a look at all of the gowns
my homepage had to offer.
How about this celestial monk robe?
Wow, slay. (laughs)
Which was also a lot.
I think I've pinned enough gowns in my time,
both back in the day
and also as inspo for our black wedding dress,
that I think my feed is ready
to start unleashing the gowns at any moment.
This one's kind of interesting.
This one's kind of interesting.
I like that, I like this, I like this.
And I'm pretty sure Pinterest's algorithm
also adapts as you scroll.
Black spider gown?
Oh, pagan goth witchy dress, oh.
So we were in the pocket here.
What is this?
All right, we've got like a festive
feather jumpsuit potentially.
But one thing I noticed after opening, like, 30 tabs
was that most of the stuff I had found
was not actually shoppable.
- [Tyler] That's literally Sansa Stark.
- It is, you're right.
That is an image from "Game of Thrones."
Like, some of the ones I really wanted
were actually just normal pins.
See, this is not shoppable.
It's cool though, it's really cool, but it's not shoppable.
Which was a little bit of a boner kill.
Okay, this is also not shoppable,
not shoppable, not shoppable.
Once again, not shoppable.
I am getting owned right now.
Pinterest does have this feature on a lot
of not-shoppable links called Shop the Look,
where they show some similar shoppable pins
to the one you like.
There is a Shop Similar for $8,000,
but I don't think they always catch the exact spirit
of the original pin.
Yeah, it's kind of lame and there's ostrich feathers, no.
We did, however, figure out a different solution.
This doesn't seem to be an option
when you're just scrolling on your feed,
but if you search specific search terms,
