Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
Use 'ถ้า' (if) with 'คงจะ' (would) to talk about dreams, imaginary scenarios, or past regrets that didn't happen.
- Use 'ถ้า' (thâa) to start the condition: 'ถ้าฉันรวย...' (If I were rich...)
- Use 'คงจะ' (khong-jà) in the result clause to mean 'would': '...ฉันคงจะซื้อบ้าน' (...I would buy a house)
- For past regrets, add time markers like 'ตอนนั้น' (then) to show the chance has passed.

Giving advice by putting oneself in someone else's shoes.

Easily Confused
Learners use 'จะ' for everything, making dreams sound like plans.
Both can mean 'when/if' in some contexts.
Both translate to 'should/would/probably'.

Start with 'ถ้าฉันเป็นคุณ' (If I were you) to make your suggestion sound less like an order.
Always check if the event actually happened. If it didn't, use 'คงจะ...แล้ว'.
Don't panic! It's just a fancy version of 'ถ้า'. Treat it exactly the same way.
