حضر الحفل

You can also use it when telling a story about your weekend. If there is music, food, and a crowd, this phrase fits. It sounds polished but remains very accessible for daily life.

Do not use this for a casual 'hangout' at a cafe. For a simple meeting with one friend, use قابلت صديقي (I met my friend). حفل implies a bit of scale and organization. Also, avoid using it for 'attending' a class or a lecture. For those, you would use حضر الحصة or حضر المحاضرة. Using حفل for a math class might make people think your teacher is throwing a rave!

In Arab culture, attending a party is often seen as a social duty. It is about showing respect and sharing joy with the host. If you are invited to a حفل, your presence is highly valued. Hospitality is huge, so 'attending' usually involves lots of food and long conversations. Being a 'no-show' without a good reason can be a bit of a social faux pas.
