The Present Continuous Tense: I Am Doing
Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
Use the Present Continuous to describe actions happening right now by adding the 'um' suffix to the verb stem.
- Add '-ում' to the verb stem: 'կարդալ' (to read) becomes 'կարդում եմ' (I am reading).
- Use the auxiliary verb 'եմ/ես/է/ենք/եք/են' to indicate the subject.
- For negatives, add 'չ' to the auxiliary verb: 'չեմ կարդում' (I am not reading).

Meanings
The Present Continuous tense describes actions currently in progress or ongoing habits.
Current Action
Actions happening at the exact moment of speaking.
“Նա երգում է։”
“Մենք ճաշում ենք։”
Ongoing Habit
Actions that are true in the current period of life.
“Ես հիմա հայերեն եմ սովորում։”
“Նրանք աշխատում են նոր նախագծի վրա։”
