Parents often use this phrase to instill a sense of 'gratitude' (sabor) in children, explaining that their current sacrifices are for the child's 'veng chngay' success. The concept of 'Sati' (mindfulness) in Cambodian Buddhism often overlaps with 'veng chngay,' as both require being aware of the consequences of one's actions. In rural areas, 'veng chngay' is often applied to land ownership—keeping land for future generations rather than selling it for quick cash.
