Placement of Demonstratives

Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

In Malay, demonstratives like 'ini' (this) and 'itu' (that) always come AFTER the noun they describe.

  • Place 'ini' after the noun: 'Buku ini' (This book).
  • Place 'itu' after the noun: 'Kereta itu' (That car).
  • Never put the demonstrative before the noun: 'Ini buku' is incorrect.
Noun + ini/itu = Pointing at something
