Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
In Marathi, proper names change their ending when followed by a postposition like 'to', 'with', or 'in'.
- Add -a to masculine names ending in a consonant: 'Ram' becomes 'Rama-la'.
- Add -ya to names ending in -a: 'Sita' becomes 'Site-la'.
- Most names ending in -i or -u remain unchanged or lengthen the vowel.

The oblique case is a grammatical form that nouns take when they are followed by a postposition (like 'to', 'from', 'in'). Proper names must undergo this transformation to be grammatically correct.
Direct Object Marker
Used when the name is the recipient of an action.
