Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

Use 'ako' for possibilities (if) and 'kada' for certainties or habits (when/whenever).

  • Use 'ako' when the outcome depends on a condition: 'Ako pada kiša, ostat ću doma.' (If it rains, I'll stay home.)
  • Use 'kada' for things that definitely happen or repeat: 'Kada dođem, nazvat ću te.' (When I arrive, I'll call.)
  • In the future, both often trigger the 'Futur II' (budem + participle) for precise timing.
  • Always use a comma if the 'ako/kada' clause comes first.

Never say 'Ako ću doći'. Use 'Ako dođem' or 'Ako budem došao'.
