Expressing Doubt and Possibility
Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
Use particles like 'երևի' and 'հնարավոր է' to show you aren't 100% sure about a statement.
- Use 'երևի' (erevi) for 'maybe' in casual speech: 'Երևի գամ' (Maybe I'll come).
- Use 'հնարավոր է' (hnaravor e) for 'it is possible' followed by 'որ' (vor).
- Use 'կարող է' (karogh e) impersonally to mean 'it might be' regardless of the subject.
Meanings
Grammatical constructions used to indicate the speaker's lack of certainty or to suggest a potential outcome.
Adverbial Probability
Using 'երևի' (maybe) or 'թերևս' (perhaps) to modify a whole sentence.
“Նա երևի արդեն տանն է: (He is probably home already.)”
Impersonal Possibility
Using 'հնարավոր է' (it's possible) or 'կարող է' (it might) as a lead-in clause.
“Կարող է պատահի՝ ուշանանք: (It might happen that we are late.)”
Direct Doubt
Using the verb 'կասկածել' (to doubt) to explicitly state uncertainty.
“Կասկածում եմ, որ նա ճիշտ է ասում: (I doubt that he is telling the truth.)”
