Narrating Past Events
Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
To talk about completed actions in the past, add the suffix -dı/-di, -ты/-ті, or -ды/-ді to the verb stem.
- Use -dı/-di after voiced consonants and vowels (e.g., келді - came).
- Use -ты/-ті after voiceless consonants (e.g., айтты - said).
- Add personal suffixes after the tense marker (e.g., бардым - I went).
Meanings
The definite past tense is used to describe actions that were completed at a specific time in the past.
Completed Action
An action that finished in the past.
“Мен тамақ іштім.”
“Ол үйге барды.”
Personal Experience
Stating what you did personally.
“Мен сабақты оқыдым.”
“Мен қалаға көштім.”
Historical Fact
Stating events that happened in history.
