In Marathi schools, 'Shānta basā' is often accompanied by 'हात जोडून' (hāt jōḍūn - with hands folded), emphasizing a posture of discipline. During 'Bhajans' or 'Kirtans' (devotional singing), the leader might use this phrase to prepare the audience for a silent meditation or 'Dhyan'. In rural Maharashtra, the village head (Sarpanch) uses this to maintain order during heated debates about local issues. In a traditional music performance, the audience is expected to 'Shānta basā' to show respect to the 'Raga' and the artist.
