Perfect Tense (Täisminevik)

Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

Use the Perfect Tense to describe past actions that have a connection to the present moment.

  • Use 'olema' (to be) + past participle ending in -nud: 'Ma olen söönud' (I have eaten).
  • The subject determines the form of 'olema': 'Me oleme käinud' (We have been).
  • In the negative, use 'ei ole' + past participle: 'Ma ei ole maganud' (I haven't slept).
Subject + [olema] + Verb-nud
