Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

In Lao, you place intensifiers like 'lai' (very) or 'dee' (good) directly after the adjective to change its intensity.

  • Place 'lai' after an adjective to mean 'very': 'ngam lai' (very beautiful).
  • Use 'dee' after an adjective to mean 'well' or 'good': 'dee lai' (very good).
  • Use 'bo' before the adjective to negate it: 'bo ngam' (not beautiful).
Adjective + lai = Very [Adjective]
