Verbs Taking the Locative Case
Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
Certain Azerbaijani verbs require the location to end in -da or -də instead of a direct object.
- Use -da/-də for static locations: 'Evdəyəm' (I am at home).
- Verbs like 'oturmaq' (to sit) take the locative: 'Stulda otururam' (I sit on the chair).
- Always match the vowel harmony: 'a/ı/o/u' takes -da, 'e/ə/i/ö/ü' takes -də.

The locative case indicates the static position of an action or state. It answers the question 'Where?' (Harada?).
Static Location
Indicating where someone or something is located.

Look at the very last vowel of the word. If it's a, ı, o, u, it's -da. Otherwise, it's -də.
Remember that 'I have' is expressed as 'At me, there is' (Məndə var).
Always add an apostrophe before the suffix for names.
If you are going somewhere, use -a/-ə. If you are staying there, use -da/-də.
