Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

Bulgarian is phonetic: you read exactly what you see, so match each letter to its sound to read any word.

  • Each letter represents one primary sound: 'к' is always 'k', 'а' is always 'a'.
  • Stress matters: the stressed vowel is longer and clearer, e.g., 'кОтка' (cat).
  • Connect sounds smoothly: blend the sounds together without pauses between letters.
Letter 1 + Letter 2 + Letter 3 = Word
