Contexto cultural

Calligraphy (Khoshnevisi) is a national pride. Children are often taught to write with a reed pen (ghalam-e ney) to appreciate the art of 'neveshtan'. In Dari (Afghan Persian), 'neveshtan' is also the standard verb, but the pronunciation of the 'v' can be softer, almost like a 'w'. Tajik Persian uses the Cyrillic script, so 'neveshtan' is written as 'навиштан'. The verb remains the same despite the different script. The concept of 'Sarnovesht' (Head-writing) refers to destiny, implying that our lives are 'written' on our foreheads by fate.
