Forming Type 2 Conditionals: Past Subjunctive + Conditional
Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
Use the Past Subjunctive (Ankatar) with the Conditional (Paymanakan) to talk about imaginary present or future situations.
- Use 'եթե' (if) + Past Subjunctive for the condition: 'եթե ունենայի' (if I had).
- Use the Conditional mood for the result: 'կգնայի' (I would go).
- This structure is for things that are not true right now, like 'If I were rich...'

Meanings
This grammar expresses hypothetical, imaginary, or unlikely situations in the present or future.
Hypothetical Present
Talking about a situation that is contrary to current reality.
“Եթե նա ավելի շատ աշխատեր, ավելի շատ կվաստակեր։”
“Եթե ես թռչուն լինեի, կթռչեի։”
Polite Request
Softening a request or suggestion.
“Եթե հնարավոր լիներ, կխնդրեի օգնել։”

Unlikely Future
Speculating about a future event that is improbable.
“Եթե վաղը ձյուն գար, մենք կդահուկեինք։”
