Sentence Final Particles (တယ် / ပါတယ်)
Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
Use 'တယ်' for casual statements and 'ပါတယ်' for polite, formal statements to end your Burmese sentences.
- Use 'တယ်' (te) for casual, everyday statements: 'ကျွန်တော် စားတယ်' (I eat).
- Use 'ပါတယ်' (pa-te) for polite, respectful statements: 'ကျွန်တော် စားပါတယ်' (I am eating).
- Both particles attach directly to the end of the verb to complete the sentence.
